PM Narendra Modi presented a vision of the future by calling for international cooperation to seize the power of artificial intelligence

PM Modi at Paris Summit: The DAWN of AI Age latest news: Paris, February 11, 2025: PM Narendra Modi presented a vision of the future by calling for international cooperation to seize the power of artificial intelligence. The Prime Minister spoke to a gathering of global leaders, technologists, and policymakers about how AI can shape society, and at the same time, spoke of the burden it brings with it.

Standing before an attentive audience, Modi began, “We are at the dawn of the AI age,” emphasizing that AI is already making its mark on our politics, economy, security, and society. He acknowledged the concerns some people have about machines becoming more intelligent than humans, but he reassured them, saying, “No one holds the key to our collective future and shared destiny other than us humans. That sense of responsibility must guide us.”

Modi exposed how AI can advance the lives of millions by enhancing health, education, agriculture, and so much more. He envisioned a world where the journey to achieving Sustainable Development Goals becomes easier and faster with the help of AI.

"To do this, we must pull together resources and talent. We must develop open-source systems that enhance trust and transparency. We must build quality data sets, free from biases. We must democratize technology and create people-centric applications. We must address concerns related to cybersecurity, disinformation, and deep fakes. And we must also ensure that technology is rooted in local ecosystems for it to be effective and useful," he elaborated.

Loss of jobs is AI's most feared disruption. But history has shown that jobs do not disappear due to technology. Its nature changes, and new types of jobs are created. We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future," Modi said, addressing one of the biggest fears associated with AI.

Modi also spoke about the environmental implications of AI, stating, "There is no question that the high energy intensity of AI needs to be looked into.". This will need green power to power its future. He mentioned that India and France have been long-standing partners, including through International Solar Alliance for solar power and stressed the requirement for sustainable AI models that are efficient in size, data needs, and resource requirements. "After all, the human brain manages to compose poetry and design spaceships using less power than most light bulbs," he said.

He used an example of the country's digital infrastructure to call up India's successes: "India has successfully built a digital public infrastructure for over 1.4 billion people at a very low cost. It is built around an open and accessible network, it has regulations and a wide range of applications to modernize our economy, reform governance, and transform the lives of our people.". We have powered the power of data through our data empowerment and protection architecture and made digital commerce democratic and accessible to all.
This vision is the foundation of India's national AI mission. That is why, during our G-20 presidency, we built a consensus on harnessing AI responsibly for good and for all. Today, India leads in AI adoption and technical legal solutions on data privacy. We develop AI applications for public good. We have one of the largest talent pools in the world about AI. India is developing its large language model, while considering the diversity we also have a unique model of partnership between our public and private sectors to pool in resources like compute power. It is made available to our startups as well as researchers at affordable cost", said PM Modi.

As the summit continued, Modi's words resonated with many, sparking conversations about the ethical, inclusive, and people-centric applications of AI. His call for collective effort to establish governance frameworks and standards that uphold shared values, address risks, and build trust struck a chord with attendees. He urged the global community to come together and work towards a future where AI is used responsibly and ethically.
