It is pertinent to mention that a curfew was imposed in Haldwani after the residents reportedly set vehicles on fire and hurled stones that injured at least 100 people. It all happened over the demolition of an "illegally built" madrasa.

As per the police, most of the injured people were taken to hospital. SSP Prahlad Meena said a notice was served earlier on the madrasa constructed illegally on government land.

DM also claimed that it appears the violence was “pre-planned and unprovoked” and "stones were stored beforehand at homes while the rioters even used petrol bombs".
