BJP Fact-Finding Team Alleges West Bengal Police Shielding Real Culprits in Kolkata Law Student Rape Case
Kolkata, July 8 – Manan Kumar Mishra, Member of Parliament and part of the BJP's fact-finding committee, has alleged that the West Bengal Police is deliberately protecting the real culprits involved in the rape of a law student in Kolkata and is "taking a huge risk to shield a bigshot."
Speaking to ANI, Mishra said, “The way they have tampered with the FIR is visible to all. When we met the Commissioner of Police, he had no answers. We believe the authorities are trying to shield the actual culprits and remove them from the scene. If the police are taking such a massive risk, it is clearly to protect someone influential. Police don’t take such risks to save an ordinary person.”
He further stated that the fact-finding team was not allowed to meet the victim or her family.
“We were not permitted to meet the victim and her family. An independent committee must be formed to investigate the matter. If we consider the situation across West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government must be dissolved, and President’s Rule should be imposed in the state,” Mishra said.
Earlier today, the BJP fact-finding committee submitted its report to BJP National President and Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda.
The committee comprises former Union Ministers Satpal Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi, Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, and Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra.
Reacting to the findings, JP Nadda said the report “exposes the utter state of lawlessness in West Bengal and the state government's alarming insensitivity towards women's safety.”
“From Sandeshkhali to RG Kar Hospital, and now this, the pattern remains the same — silence, inaction, and protection for the accused,” Nadda stated in a post on X.
