Kolkata Rape and Murder Case: The Supreme Court today rejected the petition filed by Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, challenging the Calcutta High Court's decision to transfer the investigation of a corruption case against him to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Ghosh has been under scrutiny following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the institution last month.
A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, dismissed Ghosh's request to intervene in a separate petition concerning financial irregularities during his tenure. The court firmly stated, "As an accused, you have no locus to intervene in the PIL where the Calcutta High Court is monitoring the investigation."
The Supreme Court also declined Ghosh's request to remove remarks made by the High Court, which linked corruption allegations to the trainee doctor's rape in Kolkata on August 9.
The Calcutta High Court had transferred the financial irregularities investigation at the state-run hospital to the CBI on August 23, following a petition filed by Dr. Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent of the facility. Sandip Ghosh was subsequently arrested by the CBI after repeated questioning over two weeks.
