Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched the ‘Bharat Taxi’ app, a cooperative ride-hailing service, at an event held at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Amit Shah stated that within three years, this taxi service would become a significant means of welfare for taxi sarathis across the country, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Dwarka to Kamakhya.

According to a report by India Today, the app is backed by the Government of India but is not a government initiative. It promises transparent fares and better pay for drivers compared to private cab aggregators such as Uber and Ola.

The app is currently available to users in the Delhi-NCR region and is expected to expand to more states and cities in the coming months.

The India Today report highlighted, citing the service, that Bharat Taxi operates on a 'no-commission model', allowing drivers to receive the entire fare collected, unlike private apps, where high commissions are a major concern. 

At present, the app does not charge drivers any fee. However, in the near future, it may introduce a daily fee ranging between Rs 25 and Rs 30, the report said, citing Bharat Taxi CEO Vivek Pandey.

The app is also being positioned as beneficial for passengers, as it claims to offer affordable fares without surge pricing. The report noted that surge pricing on private cab aggregators increases fares during periods of high demand, whereas fares on Bharat Taxi will remain fixed and transparent.

Additionally, Bharat Taxi plans to provide government-backed loans to drivers in the future to help them purchase their own taxis for the service. The initiative aims to create more employment opportunities.

“For the safety of passengers and drivers, Bharat Taxi has partnered with the Delhi Police and Gujarat Police. The app will feature facilities such as real-time tracking, verified drivers, multilingual support, and 24x7 customer care. There are also plans to link the service with the metro network,” the report said.
