Price of Domestic Gas Cylinder hiked by 56 percent in Past 4 Years, Subsidy Declines

The prices have been on constant surge from last 4 years

NEW-DELHI: The Price of a 14.2 kg LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) cylinder was increased by Rs 50 recently. With this, the cost have reached to Rs 1,103. Statistics show that the prices of cylinders have increased about 56 percent in the last four years. The retail selling price of a domestic LPG cylinder (14.2 kg) on April 1, 2019 was Rs 706.50. In 2020, it increased to Rs 744 rupees. After this, it surged to Rs 809 in 2021 and Rs 949.50 in 2022. The price has hiked from Rs 1,053 on March 1, 2023 to Rs 1,103 currently. In the last few years. The prices have been on constant surge.

Notably, Government data shows that the total subsidy on LPG has declined in the last few years. Figures on LPG subsidy given by the government in the last four years shows that it was Rs 37,209 crore in 2018-19. It fell to Rs 24,172 crore in 2019-20, Rs 11,896 crore in 2020-21 and Rs 1,811 crore in 2021-22.

According to the information received from the Ministry of Petroleum, the prices of petroleum products including LPG in the country are linked to the prices of related products in the international market.
