PM to Lead Special Tree Plantation on World Environment Day, While Jaipur’s Dhol Ka Badh Forest Fights for Survival Amid Unity Mall Plans
PM to Lead Special Tree Plantation on World Environment Day latest news: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lead a special tree plantation initiatice under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, New Delhi, on June 5, 2025, at 10:15 AM, on World Environment Day.
The initiative aims to reaffirm India’s commitment to environmental stewardship and green mobility, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
As part of the event, the Prime Minister will plant a banyan sapling. This initiative is a part of the Aravalli Green Wall Project, which seeks to reforest the 700-km-long Aravalli range. The project covers a 5 km buffer area around the Aravalli hills in 29 districts across four states—Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat.
The project aims to boost biodiversity of the Aravallis through afforestation, reforestation and restoration of water bodies. It also aims to improve the soil fertility, water availability and climate resilience of the region. The project will also be of benefit to the local communities by providing them with employment and income generation opportunities.
Prime Minister will also flag off 200 Electric Buses under Delhi Government’s sustainable transport initiative. This move promotes clean urban mobility and symbolizes the nation’s collective responsibility towards ecological balance.
Dhol Ka Badh to be cleared for PM Unity Mall
Meanwhile, in Jaipur’s Sanganer area, the Dhol Ka Badh natural forest—a crucial green lung beside the Dravyavati River—is under threat as Jaipur Government plans to Build PM Unity Mall on the forest.
Home to around 2,400 trees, 64 bird species (including migratory birds), antelopes, hares, and serving as a living classroom for students, the forest plays a vital role in cooling the nearby area and aiding groundwater recharge. The forest also contains the khejri tree, Rajasthan’s state tree.
However, the Rajasthan Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) plans to clear this forest to build the PM Unity Mall, along with a fintech park, residential complexes, hotels, and a Rajasthan Mandapam on the land.
According to the Instagram handle letjaipubreathmovement, the government claims the project is part of boosting economic development and job creation.
Letjaipubreathmovement handle says, on paper, Dhol Ka Badh is not classified as a forest but recorded as “gair mumkin pahar”—an uncultivable wasteland—not protected under the Forest Conservation Act.
It also says that RIICO is a state agency, and the land is state-owned, therefore, unless the state declares it a forest, the central government cannot intervene.
Students, activists, and local residents have joined the Let Jaipur Movement to save Dhol Ka Badh. Protests against the deforestation have been ongoing for a long time.
this comes after kancha Gachibowli case of Hyderabad, where the BJP government has critisied the Congress Government for letting it happen.
This situation follows the Kancha Gachibowli case in Hyderabad, which the BJP government has criticized the previous Congress government for allowing.
Currently, the BJP rules Rajasthan, but locals continue to protest against the tree felling of Dhol Ka Badh for the PM Unity Mall project.
