PM Narendra Modi Chandigarh Visit Today: Chandigarh is under tight security as the UT Administration prepares for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Sector 12 on Tuesday. Approximately 4,000 police personnel and 10 paramilitary units have been deployed across the city to ensure law and order.
Itinerary and High-Profile Attendance
The Prime Minister will arrive at the old airport at 11:25 am before flying by an MI-17 helicopter to the Rajindra Park helipad in Sector 1. From there, he will travel by road to PEC, located less than 1 km away.
Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived in Chandigarh on Monday evening, will join PM Modi for the event. Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, along with senior officials from the Administration and Police Department, will also be in attendance.
Focus on Transformative Criminal Justice Reforms
The event at PEC, themed “Secure Society, Developed India — From Punishment to Justice”, will highlight the successful nationwide implementation of three transformative criminal laws:
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
- Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam
These laws, enforced on July 1, aim to replace colonial-era legislation with modern frameworks emphasizing justice over punishment. PM Modi will dedicate their successful implementation to the nation.
The programme will include a live demonstration of how these laws are reshaping the criminal justice system, featuring simulations of crime scene investigations. Newly recruited IPS officers from across the country will also witness presentations by Chandigarh Police on integrating technology into law enforcement. Digital platforms such as e-Sakshya, Nyay Setu, Nyay Shruti, and e-Summons, developed by the NIC and NCRB, will be showcased.
Traffic Disruptions Due to Security Drills
Security rehearsals on Monday caused significant traffic snarls, with mock drills during peak hours disrupting major routes. Temporary road closures for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s convoy in the evening added to the congestion.
Roads to Avoid (11 am–3:30 pm):
Dakshin Marg: Airport light point, Tribune Chowk, Iron Market traffic lights, Gurdwara Chowk, New Labour Chowk.
Sarovar Path: Old Labour Chowk, AP Chowk, Hira Singh Chowk.
Vigyan Path: Sector 4/5–8/9 chowk, New Barricade Chowk, PEC light point.
Citizens have been advised to plan their travel accordingly.
PM Modi’s visit is expected to not only highlight the government’s vision for justice reforms but also reaffirm India’s commitment to modernizing its judicial system for a secure and equitable society.
