“Is terrorism a rational act of warfare? I don’t think so, because terrorism has no defined logic.”
Operation Sindoor Not Over Yet, Says CDS General Anil Chauhan; 'Venom-Spewed by General Asim Munir'
Operation Sindoor Not Over Yet, Says CDS General Anil Chauhan latest news: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday said that ‘Operation Sindoor’ is not over yet and emphasized the need to keep the nation's guard up.
While addressing an event organised by Savitribai Phule Pune University, General Chauhan stated that “India did not want to get into a long-drawn conflict.”
“We’ve seen our experience in Operation Parakram. We were deployed for almost nine months. It involved significant expenditure and disrupted everything. After Balakot as well, we had mobilised troops, though not for as long. In this particular case (Operation Sindoor), what happened was that before the mobilisation could be completed, the operations were halted,” he explained.
He then added, “Operation Sindoor is not over yet. It continues. This is only a temporary cessation of hostilities. There is a need to keep our guard up. As far as the Pakistani side is concerned, I can make two guesses: one, they were suffering losses faster and at a significant distance; and two, they likely realised that if the operations continued for much longer, they would incur heavier losses. That’s probably why they picked up the telephone.”
General Chauhan said the starting point of the recent conflict was the Pahalgam terror attack. Referring to Pakistan’s approach, he said, “The adversary has taken the decision to bleed India by a thousand cuts. In 1965, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto declared a thousand-year war against India during his address to the United Nations Security Council.”
He questioned, “Is terrorism a rational act of warfare? I don’t think so, because terrorism has no defined logic.”
Elaborating on the timeline, General Chauhan said, “On the 10th of May, at about 1 a.m., their (Pakistan’s) aim was to bring India to its knees within 48 hours. Multiple attacks were launched, escalating the conflict. But we had only targeted terror infrastructure. The operations, which they thought would last for 48 hours, folded up in about eight hours — and then they picked up the phone and expressed a desire to talk.”
He further revealed that India informed Pakistan in advance about its strike: “We had informed Pakistan on the day we launched the surgical strikes — May 7. When there was rhetoric from the Pakistani side, we made it clear that if Pakistan hit us, especially military establishments, we would hit them back — and hit them harder.”
General Chauhan described the nature of the operation: “This was the first instance of no-contact warfare we fought, except for ongoing activity on the Line of Control. It was a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic operations.”
He hailed Operation Sindoor as a landmark in modern warfare: “Operation Sindoor created history in air warfare. Successful precision strikes were carried out deep inside enemy territory with offensive intent. It was a significant achievement. We were able to penetrate their air defence networks and sustain relentless operations.”
Referring to the cause of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, he said, “Venom was spewed by General Asim Munir against India and Hindus in a speech weeks before the Pahalgam incident. Water and blood cannot flow together. We have raised the bar by establishing a direct link between terror and war.”
