Pune Law student latest news: Sharmishta Panoli’s advocate has said that efforts are being made to secure her release on bail as soon as possible. He also alleged that the Alipore women's correctional home is not maintaining ‘Proper’ hygiene and claimed that the girl has kidney stones and is denied access to newspapers and magazines.

Sharmishta Panoli’s Advocate Md Samimuddin, speaking to ANI, said "We are trying our best to get her out of jail before June 13. We will sit down on the matter today and discuss it. We will take a call in one or two days about what we will do...At Alipore women's correctional home, proper hygiene is not being maintained around her and she is unwell. She has kidney stones. She is not being given access to newspapers and magazines.

Claiming Sharmishta Panoli’s is innocent, he added, “Today we have filed a petition in the court so that she gets access to her basic rights... Sharmistha is innocent. We are trying our best to get out on bail..."

Sharmishta Panoli’s was arrested by Kolkata Police from Gurugram on Friday for allegedly making a communal statement related to ‘Operation Sindoor’.  She was produced before Alipore Court in Kolkata on Saturday and has been remanded to judicial custody until June 13. Her arrest sparked political debate.

Earlier, BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya criticized the arrest, calling it an act of “vote bank appeasement.”

Kolkata Police , in its statement posted on Sunday, clarified that hate speech targeting any religious group, community, or section of citizens — which may incite disharmony — is a punishable offence under the newly implemented BNSS.

The police reiterated that Panoli was not arrested for expressing patriotism or personal beliefs but for sharing offensive content that allegedly promoted hatred.
