Himachal Pradesh Update

Nowcast (Valid until 12 noon today): The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has issued orange and yellow alerts for Himachal Pradesh, warning of light to moderate rain and a few spells of intense rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, strong surface winds, squalls, and other weather conditions.

The districts under orange alert are Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi, Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur. The Meteorological Centre has warned these districts of moderate rain, moderate thunderstorms, and strong surface winds with gusts reaching up to 41–61 km/h.

Meanwhile, the remaining districts — Chamba, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti, and Sirmaur — are placed under a yellow alert, with a warning of light to moderate rainfall.

This Nowcast remains valid until 12 noon today.

Forecast for Today, July 1:
In its forecast, the India Meteorological Department, Shimla, has placed four districts in the state under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and other weather conditions.

The four districts under orange alert are Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur.

The state meteorological department has placed Kullu, Chamba, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Solan under a yellow alert, warning of heavy rain.

Meanwhile, there are no weather warnings for Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur.

In the past 24 hours, Mandi recorded the maximum rainfall in the state at 216.0 mm, while the highest maximum temperature, 30.9°C, was recorded in Bajuara.
Keylong reported the lowest minimum temperature, which stood at 12.6°C.

Temperature and Rainfall Outlook for July 2025:
According to IMD’s national monthly outlook, the monthly average rainfall across India in July 2025 is most likely to remain above normal, exceeding the Long Period Average (LPA). Most parts of the country are expected to witness normal to above-normal rainfall.

However, Northeast and East India, along with many parts of the extreme southern peninsular region and some areas of northwest India, are likely to experience below-normal rainfall.

In terms of temperature, the monthly average maximum temperatures in July 2025 are expected to remain normal to below normal in many regions, except in Northeast India and parts of the northwest, east, and southern peninsula, where they are likely to be above normal.

Meanwhile, above-normal minimum temperatures are likely over Northeast India, many parts of the southern peninsula, and regions of the northwest, east, and central India.
