4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Jhajjar, Haryana: Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR; Metro Halted Briefly
Jhajjar, Haryana – A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Jhajjar district in Haryana at 9:04 AM IST on Thursday, triggering strong tremors across the Delhi-NCR region.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicenter was located at latitude 28.63°N and longitude 76.68°E, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
As a precautionary measure, Delhi Metro services were temporarily halted for 2–3 minutes following the standard operating procedure (SOP). A commuter, Arshad, told ANI, “The train stopped around 9:04–9:05 AM. We didn’t feel the tremors.”
In Gurugram, Haryana, residents reported feeling strong jolts. “We were having tea when I suddenly felt strong tremors. I asked everyone to rush out of the building, and they did,” said one local.
Another resident shared, “For a few seconds, it felt like the ground was shaking vigorously. We all rushed outside.”
People in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, also experienced the tremors. “I had just woken up when the jolt hit. It was scary,” said one man, adding that earthquakes in the region have become frequent. Another said, “I was at a shop when it happened. It felt like someone was shaking the shop.”
In Delhi, a man described the experience as “scary,” while another said the tremors were so strong that they shook his vehicle.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
