Indian Stock Markets Open Strong After US Court Ruling and Nvidia's Robust Earnings

Indian Stock Markets Latest news: Indian stock markets opened on a strong note on Thursday, ANI reported. The positive momentum was largely influenced by a major ruling by a U.S. trade court and upbeat quarterly earnings from U.S. tech giant Nvidia, which exceeded Wall Street expectations.

The Nifty 50 index opened at 24,825.10, gaining 72.65 points or 0.29 per cent, while the BSE Sensex rose by 278.71 points to open at 81,591.03, marking an increase of 0.34 per cent.

According to the report, market experts attributed the bullish opening of Indian stock indices to a ruling by the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York. The court, in a decision issued late Wednesday, invalidated the Trump-era tariffs that had been in place since January 2025.

The Court of International Trade held that the U.S. Constitution grants Congress exclusive authority to regulate trade with foreign nations, and that this power cannot be overridden by the President’s emergency powers, which are intended to safeguard the U.S. economy.

Quoting the ruling, Reuters reported, “The court does not pass upon the wisdom or likely effectiveness of the President’s use of tariffs as leverage,” and further emphasized, “That use is impermissible not because it is unwise or ineffective, but because federal law does not allow it.”

The Trump administration has announced plans to appeal the verdict in the Federal Appeals Court and indicated it may escalate the matter to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The U.S. dollar and financial markets responded positively to the court’s decision, and a strong opening was observed across Asian stock markets, including India.

Ajay Bagga, a banking and market expert, told ANI that although global sentiment has improved due to the U.S. court ruling against Trump-era tariffs, Indian markets are unlikely to see a sharp rise today.

"Indian markets have entrenched short positions which will not allow the expiry today to take the markets sharply higher, but we can expect a mild gap up open with intra-day expiry-led volatility. The Index options setup for the May series expiry today is pointing to a range-bound market with the upside capped by substantial shorts at 25000 levels for the Nifty. Expect volatility but the global sentiment has turned positive post this Court ruling in the US against the Trump Tariffs," Ajay Bagga Banking and Market Expert, told ANI.

At the time of filing this report, sectoral indices also showed broad-based gains, with the exception of the Nifty FMCG index, which remained under pressure.

Nvidia’s Earnings Drive Market Optimism
Meanwhile, Nvidia’s strong quarterly revenue is being viewed as another key reason behind the upbeat sentiment in Indian stock markets.

Nvidia once again exceeded Wall Street expectations, driven by surging demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. According to Business Insider, the company reported a quarterly revenue of $44.06 billion, beating the estimated $43.32 billion.

Nvidia’s data center segment—a key driver of AI infrastructure—alone generated $39.1 billion in revenue during the quarter.

Nvidia is a leading U.S. tech company specializing in graphics processing units (GPUs) used in gaming, AI, data centers, and autonomous vehicles. It is considered a cornerstone in the current AI revolution, making its performance a significant market indicator globally.
