New FASTag Rules 2025 Latest News Today: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has rolled out new regulations for FASTag users, aimed at improving toll collection efficiency and ensuring smoother travel. These rules, effective from today, come with strict compliance measures—failure to adhere could result in double toll charges. Here's everything you need to know about the updated FASTag rules.
When Will FASTag Payments Be Rejected?
As per an NPCI circular dated January 28, 2025, FASTag payments will not be processed if:
- The FASTag was blacklisted up to 60 minutes before being scanned at a toll plaza or within 10 minutes after it was read.
- The FASTag has insufficient balance or has been blocked for any reason.
In such cases, vehicle owners will be required to pay double the toll amount as a penalty.
Key Changes in FASTag Rules Effective February 17, 2025
- Blacklisted FASTags: Payments will be rejected if the FASTag was blacklisted within 60 minutes before scanning at a toll booth.
- 70-Minute Grace Period: Users will have 70 minutes to rectify their FASTag status in case of blacklisting due to low balance or technical issues.
- Negative Balance Policy: Vehicles with a negative FASTag balance will still be allowed to pass through the toll plaza, with charges deducted from the security deposit.
- Refunds on Recharge: Any deductions from the security deposit will be refunded once the FASTag is recharged.
Why Can a FASTag Be Blacklisted?
A FASTag may be blacklisted due to:
- Insufficient balance
- Unpaid toll charges
- Failed payment attempts
- Incomplete KYC (Know Your Customer) details
- Mismatched vehicle registration or chassis details
Tips to Avoid FASTag Issues
To ensure hassle-free toll transactions, users should:
- Maintain a minimum balance of Rs. 100 in their FASTag wallet.
- Regularly check balance and status via the MyFASTag app.
- Enable auto-recharge for uninterrupted toll payments.
- Keep their registered mobile number updated to receive notifications.
- Properly affix the FASTag sticker on the vehicle’s windshield.
- Use only one FASTag per vehicle to prevent transaction errors.
With these new rules now in effect, FASTag users are advised to stay updated and take necessary precautions to avoid penalties and ensure seamless travel.
