Users will receive a notification informing them of the call

NEW-DELHI: WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform, has unveiled a new feature designed to address the issue of unwanted calls from unknown numbers. CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, announced the release of this feature on Tuesday, stating that WhatsApp now offers the ability to automatically silence calls from unidentified numbers.

The introduction of this feature is aimed at enhancing user privacy on the platform. According to Zuckerberg, this functionality allows users to avoid receiving calls from unknown numbers altogether, providing them with a greater sense of control over their communication experience. By enabling the new feature, incoming calls from unidentified numbers will be automatically silenced.

However, users will receive a notification informing them of the call, and if desired, they can review these calls within the app's call list. This new addition comes as a relief for many users who have been troubled by unsolicited spam calls on WhatsApp, particularly in India.

Here's how the new feature operates:

- Open the WhatsApp application on your device.
- Tap on the "i" button to access the settings and select the "Privacy" option.
- Within the privacy settings, locate the "Call" feature, positioned third from the bottom.
- Tap on the "Call" option and activate the "Silence Unknown Caller" function.
- Once activated, you will only receive notifications for calls from unknown numbers.
- All calls can be viewed at any time in the app's call tab.
- By empowering users to manage and silence calls from unknown numbers, WhatsApp aims to provide a more secure and seamless communication experience. This feature not only enhances privacy but also alleviates concerns regarding unsolicited and intrusive calls, fostering a more enjoyable user experience.
