Farmers Protest 2024: Chandigarh to Delhi Road Via Ambala Reopens

The reopening of one side of the highway brings respite to residents

Chandigarh-Ambala-Delhi Road Reopens Amidst Farmers' Protest 2024: In a welcome development for commuters and farmers, the Haryana Government has initiated the removal of barricades along the Chandigarh Delhi highway at Ambala which was closed due to farmers' protest at the Shambhu border. Their demands include a law guaranteeing a minimum support price (MSP), implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pensions for farmers and farm labourers, and farm debt waiver among the others.

The reopening of one side of the highway brings respite to residents who had been grappling with the challenges posed by the road closure.

Utilizing heavy machinery like JCBs, the Haryana Governmment are actively clearing the barricades, facilitating the restoration of traffic flow. Notably, the access to the toll plaza has been reinstated, as of this afternoon.

However, amidst these developments, farmer leaders have announced plans for a march to Delhi. Sarwan Singh Pandher, a prominent figure among the protesters, disclosed that those stationed at the Shambhu and Khanuri borders will conduct a sit-in protest there.

Pandher further elaborated that farmers from states beyond Haryana and Punjab will make their way to Delhi using the various modes of transportation, including trains and buses. This decision comes amid government's assertions that farmers are permitted to travel to Delhi via these means.
