Yamunanagar: Environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal laid the foundation stone of his popular five-pond water treatment Seechewal model in Khera Kalan village of Yamunanagar district today.

The model would help the Yamunanagar administration clean the dirty water of the village falling in the creek of the Sarasvati.

Seechewal said he was happy that his model was being adopted by the Yamunanagar administration. He said under this model there was no need for any machinery and the dirty water was cleaned through a natural process.

“I started this system of cleaning water from Seechewal village with the help of people of my village and neighbouring villages. I appeal to people of the district to come forward and adopt this model in their villages to clean the water,” said Seechewal.

Ravinder Mohan Rathaur, Executive Engineer, Panchayati Raj, said ponds would be constructed by the department. He said the Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board (HSHDB) had sanctioned Rs 36.12 lakh for the project.

“The foundation stone of the five-pond system has been laid in one village. This system will be adopted in the rest of the villages in the future,” he added.

HSHDB deputy chairman Prashant Bhardwaj presided over the event. Deputy Commissioner, Rohtash Singh Kharb, District Development and Panchayat Officer Gagandeep Singh, Sarasvati Nagar BDPO NK Malhotra and Sadhaura BDPO Rozy were present on the occasion. Earlier in the day, Seechewal met RSS leader and Sarasvati Shodh Sansthan president Darshan Lal Jain to tell him about the five-pond water treatment system.
