Torn Bills Thrown At Home Minister Amit Shah As He Introduced 3 Key Bills Latest News: The opposition MPs on Wednesday, in a dramatic turn of events, tore copies of three key bills introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and threw paper bits towards him in today’s session of the ongoing Monsoon Session in the Lower House of the Parliament.
Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House amid uproar.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah today introduced One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment Bill).
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “MPs should not disrespect the People's mandate and contribute in debates and discussions.”
The development came as the government introduced three bills aimed at the removal of the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, Chief Minister or State or UT Ministers if they are arrested and detained for 30 consecutive days.
Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel speaking to ANI, said, "Once these laws are passed, all the ministers, chief ministers, and central ministers across the country will be under their control because today there is such a system that if someone applies such a section, you won't get bail in the lower court. So, if it takes 3 months to get bail, then that person is out of the cabinet. This means the government is making these laws to prevent rebellion."
All three key bills, following the introduction by HM Amit Shah, were referred to the Joint Committee of Parliament.
The 21 members of the Joint Committee will be nominated by the Speaker Lok Sabha while 10 others from Rajya Sabha will be nominated by Deputy Chairman.
Opposing the Bills, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi said, "I stand to oppose the introduction of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill 2025. This violates the principle of separation of powers and undermines the right of the people to elect a government. It gives executive agencies a free hand to act as judge and executioner based on flimsy allegations and suspicions."
Congress MP KC Venugopal and Home Minister Amit Shah engaged in a verbal spat over the "morality" regarding the bills. Venugopal said, "This bill is meant to sabotage the basic principles of the Constitution., BJP members are saying that this bill is to bring morality into politics. Can I ask the Home Minister a question? When he was the Home Minister of Gujarat, he was arrested -- did he uphold morality at that time?"
On the bill for the removal of the PM, CMs, and ministers held on serious criminal charges, J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra said, "...This is an example of democracy being taken over by autocracy...Instead of empowering people, you make every attempt to disempower them. Till yesterday, you disempowered the people; today, you are not sparing any CM...In a way, you are tightening the noose around the elected representatives. This is evidence of majoritarianism..."
He made the remarks speaking to ANI.
