Faridabad: Junaid lynching main accused Naresh was remanded in five-day police custody today. He was arrested on July 8 from Dhule district in Maharashtra. During the two-day remand, the police had recovered the knife used to stab Junaid, said GRP officials.

“We are trying to recover the clothes of the accused,” said Kamaldeep Goel, SP, GRP. He said extension in remand might help the police get more details in the case. Meanwhile, residents of Naresh’s village Bhamrola in Palwal district announced a panchayat meeting for July 13 to discuss the arrest.

Naresh’s parents and some other villagers had resented his arrest. Former sarpanch Sahaj Ram claimed that Junaid could have died in act of self-defence during the brawl on June 22. “Naresh and a few others had been attacked by some persons carrying a knife, but he snatched it and used it to defend himself,” he said.

He asked the police to get mobile phone call details of all persons involved. He claimed that a group of armed persons had boarded the train in Ballabgarh just before the stabbing took place.
