PAU Rabi Crop Cultivation Practices: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) conducted a training program focused on “Improved Cultivation Practices for Rabi Crops” at Pona village as part of the ongoing Rural Agriculture Work Experience (RAWE) initiative for agriculture students.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Head of the Department of Extension Education, highlighted the significance of hands-on learning and urged farmers to adopt scientific methods to enhance their profits.
During the session, Dr. Satpal Sharma, a specialist in potato cultivation, discussed new potato varieties, seed marketing, harvesting techniques, and relevant government policies. Dr. Maninder Kaur, an agronomist, shared insights on wheat cultivation, introducing farmers to new wheat varieties and sustainable management of paddy straw.
Extension Scientist Dr. Dharminder Singh encouraged farmers to explore additional income-generating activities such as beekeeping and mushroom cultivation. He also recommended that farmers form cooperatives to reduce operational costs. In her closing remarks, Dr. Lakhwinder Kaur, also an Extension Scientist, urged attendees to engage with agricultural literature.
Agricultural development officers Jaswant Singh and Priyanka Pandotra provided further information about departmental activities, while farmers expressed keen interest in the exhibition set up during the event. The program aimed to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary for improved agricultural practices and greater economic sustainability.
