Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to help resolve these pressing issues
Farmers in Punjab, under the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Krantikari), launched a statewide "chakka jam" on Saturday, staging protests at Phagwara, Moga, Sangrur, and Batala to demand the timely procurement of paddy and resolution of other grievances. Led by Surjeet Singh Phul, the union announced indefinite road blockades until their concerns are addressed.
The protest follows a recent meeting in Delhi, chaired by Union Food and Supply Minister Pralhad Joshi and attended by MoS Ranveet Singh Bittu and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, discussing Punjab's procurement issues. However, farmers argue the state has seen no on-ground action. Sarwan Singh Pandher of the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee expressed frustration, urging Arvind Kejriwal to intervene before the state faces broader disruptions.
Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh criticized the government for slow procurement processes, while BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait questioned authorities' actions against stubble burning, emphasizing the need for better solutions.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to help resolve these pressing issues, stating that his government has already worked toward fulfilling the demands of rice millers in the state.
