On Friday, Diljit unveiled the trailer for Punjab 95 on social media, showcasing his portrayal of Khalra. The movie delves into Khalra’s tireless fight for justice during Punjab's tumultuous militancy era, highlighting his investigations into enforced disappearances and human rights abuses.

"'Panjab '95' releases in cinemas internationally only on 7th February. P.S. Full Movie, No Cuts #ChallengetheDarkness," Diljit captioned the trailer.

Originally scheduled to premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the film was unexpectedly pulled from the lineup without explanation.

Jaswant Singh Khalra’s story is one of courage and sacrifice. Between 1984 and 1994, he uncovered the secret mass cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab. In 1995, he disappeared under mysterious circumstances, and a decade later, four police officers were convicted of his abduction and murder.

In 2007, the Punjab and Haryana High Court extended the officers' sentences to life imprisonment, marking a significant legal milestone.
