Punjab Govt Takes Firm Steps to Secure Future of Orphaned and Dependent Children; Ensures Self-Reliant Adulthood

The Punjab Government is taking firm steps to secure the future of orphaned and dependent children through sustained financial and social support initiatives under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said in an official press release.

Continuing these efforts, financial assistance amounting to rupees 242.77 crore has so far been released to dependent children across the state, Dr. Kaur said. The financial support aims to assist children who have lost one or both parents or whose families are facing severe hardships.

For financial year 2025–26, the state government has allocated rupees 410 crore for the initiative. At present, over 2.32 lakh children are benefiting from monthly financial aid that supports their education and upbringing, the minister said.

Dr. Kaur reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring that no child remains deprived of basic care, protection, and opportunities for growth. She added that the government’s continuous support underscores its sensitivity and compassion toward the most vulnerable sections of society.

The minister further said that the department is also exploring integrated welfare initiatives, including skill development, counselling, and educational support for dependent children as they grow older, ensuring their smooth transition into self-reliant adulthood.

She emphasized that the state government’s commitment goes beyond financial aid; it seeks to nurture every child into a confident and capable citizen of the state.
