Governor Badnore Flags Off The Walkathon

The Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore flagged off a Walkathon organised by the Income Tax Department.

Spokesman News Service, Chandigarh October 31: The Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore today flagged off a Walkathon organised by the Income Tax Department, Chandigarh as a part of the ongoing Vigilance Awareness Week in the city being observed from 29th October, 2018 to 3rd November, 2018.

Officers and staff, retired senior officers of the Department, taxpayers, tax consultants and officers of sister departments participated. Pr.CCIT, NWR Sh. B.K. Jha, IRS led the walk. This year, the CVC, the Apex integrity institution of the country has chosen the theme of, “Eradicate corruption- Build a New India” for this years Vigilance Awareness Week.

Welcoming the Governor Punjab, Shri BK Jha explained that the walkathon was an opportunity for the department to reach out to all its stakeholders, sensitise them seek their participation in the fight against corruption. The Governor Punjab exhorted the Tax Department that citizens expect and indeed demand integrity, transparency and accountability.  There should be zero tolerance for corruption, he said.

Shri Jha stated that a multipronged approach was being used by the Income Tax department to fight corruption including e-filing, e-assessment, e-procurement, e-nivaran, cpgrams and automation, reduced public interface and minimal discretion. Spearheaded by Sh. B.K. Jha as CCIT Ludhiana, the Income Tax Department has pioneered vertical gardens on the walls of a large number of buildings in Punjab, using discarded plastic bottles which are known to reduce pollution and improve air quality.
