BCCI gives statement on India vs Pakistan bilateral series in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has given his verdict on the possibility of an India vs Pakistan bilateral series, which has not taken place in years.
The two countries last played a bilateral series in the 2012–13 season, when the Pakistan team toured India. Prior to that, India visited Pakistan for a bilateral series in the 2005–06 season.

Rajeev Shukla, while speaking to Sports Tak, said, "We will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward."
He further stated that the BCCI stands with the victims of the recent terror attack and will follow whatever directive the Government of India gives.
He explained, “We don’t play with Pakistan in bilateral series because of the government’s stand. And we will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward. But when it comes to ICC events, we participate due to ICC commitments. ICC is also aware of the current developments and will take a call accordingly.”

Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said, “The cricketing community is deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the gruesome terror attack at Pahalgam yesterday. On behalf of the BCCI, while condemning this ghastly and cowardly act in the strongest possible words, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls. In sharing their pain and grief, we stand hand in hand with them in this hour of tragedy.”

As a mark of respect, during the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, players and umpires wore black armbands, observed a minute of silence, and the match was held without cheerleaders or fireworks.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized these gestures to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the attack.

In the horrific terror attack on Tuesday, 28 people were mercilessly killed by terrorists, three of whom, according to initial investigations by authorities, are suspected to be from Pakistan.
