The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that they have been replaced by Scotland for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The decision comes after Bangladesh cited security concerns for refusing to travel to India, a move triggered by the recent ouster of cricketer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL.

According to the report, the ICC took this final step after the BCB failed to meet a 24-hour ultimatum to confirm their participation. The communication was sent via email to BCB chairman Aminul Islam Bulbul.

Sources indicate that the ICC was particularly displeased after the BCB held a press conference in Dhaka to announce their refusal to travel before officially notifying the world governing body, which was viewed as a serious protocol violation.

Under the leadership of ICC Chairman Jay Shah, the council finalized the schedule for Scotland, who will now take over Bangladesh’s fixtures. Scotland is set to play their group matches in Kolkata against the West Indies, Italy, and England, followed by a match against Nepal in Mumbai.

The unceremonious ouster will severely impact the BCB’s finances, starting with the loss of a USD 500,000 participation fee. More critically, the board risks its USD 27 million annual ICC revenue share, which funds 60% of its budget. Legally, the BCB’s only recourse is the Court of Arbitration for Sport, though the tournament will proceed as scheduled.
