Indian boxing icon Vijender Singh has been appointed as a member of the Asian Boxing Council. This marked a remarkable achievement in his transition from an elite athlete to a global sports administrator.

According to a report, Vijender brings nearly two decades of experience at the highest level of the sport, spanning both amateur and professional boxing, to this new continental role.

The 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medallist expressed his gratitude to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and its leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility. Vijender said that he is deeply honoured by the appointment and remains committed to working for the growth of Asian boxing.

He emphasised that his primary focus will be an "athlete-first" policy, ensuring that the competitive and developmental framework of the sport effectively supports boxers and helps them achieve international success.
