US School Named After Punjabi Human Rights Activist Jaswant Singh Khalra
A new school named after renowned Punjabi human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra has been inaugurated in the United States.
The school is named in honor of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a prominent human rights activist from Amritsar, Punjab. Born in 1952, Khalra was a bank manager turned activist who gained international recognition for exposing mass human rights violations during the Punjab insurgency in the 1980s and early 1990s, particularly those committed during India’s counter-insurgency operations.
During the inauguration ceremony, Khalra's wife Parmjit Kaur and daughter Navkiran Kaur Khalra were present.
Following the inauguration, the school management stated that along with formal education, the institution will strive to inspire students to raise their voices against injustice and stand up for human rights and humanity.
Several other dignitaries were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
