Canadian Commision report finds no determinative link of Nijjar with India

A Canadian commission report has found no definitive link between a foreign state and the killing of Canadian sikh activist Hardeep Nijjar

Latest Canadian Commision report finds no determinative link of Nijjar with India : Canadian commission report has found no definitive link between a foreign state and the killing of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This contradicts Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's September 2023 claim that Indian government agents were involved in Nijjar's June 2023 murder in British Columbia.

The report, titled "Public Inquiry Into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions," was released on Tuesday. Commissioner Marie-Josée Hogue noted that while disinformation is often used as a retaliatory tactic when state interests are challenged, no foreign involvement was proven in this case.

Trudeau's allegations led to a significant diplomatic fallout between India and Canada, with both countries expelling diplomats and relations becoming severely strained. India has consistently rejected the allegations, calling them "unreal" and "politically motivated."

The report also highlighted the broader issue of foreign interference in Canadian elections, identifying India as the second most active country engaging in electoral foreign interference after China. However, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India strongly rejected these insinuations, arguing that Canada has been consistently interfering in India's internal affairs.

The findings of the report mark a crucial turn in the controversy, which had strained India-Canada relations and led to diplomatic fallout between the two countries. The MEA's response emphasized that Canada has created an environment for illegal migration and organized criminal activities, further complicating the bilateral relationship.
