US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about trade negotiations between the United States and India, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "very smart man."
"Prime Minister Modi was here recently. We've always shared a great friendship. India imposes some of the highest tariffs in the world—it's tough. But he (Modi) is a very smart man and a great friend of mine. We had very productive discussions, and I believe things will work out very well between India and the US," Trump stated.
His remarks follow his recent decision to impose a 25% tariff on all imported vehicles entering the United States, set to take effect on April 2. The move will impact nearly half of all cars sold in the US, including those from American manufacturers with overseas assembly plants.
