Pakistan, in response to India, warned of retaliation, including closing its airspace to Indian flights.
China has reaffirmed its support for Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty and security interests, while urging both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.
In a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that Beijing is closely monitoring the situation and supports an "impartial investigation" into the April 22 attack that left 26 tourists dead. The attack has been attributed to the Resistance Front, a proxy group linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Amid rising tensions, India has announced strong countermeasures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and sealing the Attari land crossing. Pakistan, in response, warned of retaliation, including closing its airspace to Indian flights.
"China has consistently supported Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism," Wang said, according to an official statement from the Chinese foreign ministry. "As a close and all-weather strategic partner, China fully understands Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns."
Wang stressed that continued conflict would not serve the interests of either country or the broader region. He called on both sides to "exercise restraint, meet each other halfway, and work toward defusing tensions."
