Tangaraju Suppiah was convicted on October 9, 2018 for Smuggling
SINGAPORE: An Indian-origin Man was hanged till death in Singapore on Wednesday on the charge of smuggling hemp. Strict laws have been made in various countries around the world to prevent drug trafficking. The person identified as Tangaraju Suppiah was sentenced to death only because he had conspired to smuggle drugs in Singapore.
It is worth mentioning here that Tangaraju's family appealed to the President not to hang him, but no response was received from the President. 46-year-old Tangaraju Suppiah was arrested in 2014 on charges of drug consumption and smuggling.
Tangaraju Suppiah was convicted on October 9, 2018 for smuggling 1 kg of cannabis and sentenced to death by the court. Singapore has strict drug laws. In his defense, Tangaraju had told the court that he was not involved in drug trafficking and neither had he talked to anyone for trafficking, but the court rejected Tangaraju's argument. In its verdict, the court said that Tangaraju's phone proved that he was involved in the crime of drug trafficking.
