Pakistan vs Taliban, Airstrikes in Afghanistan Death Toll, Latest News Today: In a rare operation, Pakistan conducted airstrikes targeting suspected Pakistani Taliban hideouts in Afghanistan's Paktika province on December 24. Reports suggest that at least 15 people, including women and children, were killed in the Barmal district, with casualties expected to rise.
The strikes targeted seven villages, causing significant civilian casualties and destruction, including the razing of Murg Bazaar village. Afghan media reports indicate that a training facility was dismantled in the attack, escalating tensions in the region.
The Taliban's Ministry of Defence condemned the strikes, describing them as an attack on Afghanistan's sovereignty, and vowed retaliation. "Defending our land and sovereignty is our legitimate right," the ministry stated, adding that many victims were Waziristani refugees.
While Pakistan has not officially confirmed the strikes, they come amidst rising tensions between the two nations over the presence of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in Afghanistan. The TTP has intensified attacks on Pakistani forces in recent months, and Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of providing sanctuary to these militants.
