Four decades later, PM Modi's Presence Reaffirms Enduring Partnership between India & Greece

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's one-day visit to Greece has garnered a heartfelt reception, underscoring the amicable relations between the two nations. The Prime Minister arrived in Athens on Friday morning, where he was warmly received by Foreign Minister  George Gerapetritis at the airport. The visit marks a significant milestone, as an Indian Prime Minister sets foot in Greece after a hiatus of four decades.

The Indian community, resonating with enthusiasm, extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Modi outside a hotel in Athens. Drum beats and cheers reverberated in the air as people of Indian origin expressed their delight at his presence. In a symbolic gesture, a traditional Greek crown, known as a headdress, was presented to Modi by the Indian community. The ambiance was further charged by the spirited chant of "Bharat Mata ki Jai" (Glory to Mother India).

Prime Minister Modi's visit holds historical significance, as it follows in the footsteps of Indira Gandhi, who visited Greece in 1983. Four decades later, Modi's presence reaffirms the enduring partnership between India and Greece, with discussions slated to encompass multiple domains of mutual interest.

Significantly, The agenda of the visit revolves around deliberations on trade, technology, and defense cooperation, aiming to further fortify the bilateral ties between the two nations. Reports suggest that Greece has expressed keen interest in procuring India's indigenously developed BrahMos cruise missile. This potential deal, if materialized, could foster strategic collaboration and innovation, aligning with both nations' defense aspirations. The visit also holds the promise of fostering deeper connections between the peoples of India and Greece, strengthening cultural bonds and diplomatic cooperation.
