Thailand Vs Combodia War Reason Latest News Today: Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have escalated sharply after Thailand launched airstrikes against Cambodian military targets along their long-disputed border, according to CNN.

The Thai Ministry of Health confirmed that at least 12 people, including 11 civilians and one Thai soldier, have been killed in the latest clashes. Additionally, 24 civilians and seven soldiers have sustained injuries.

The airstrikes were launched a day after a Thai soldier lost his leg to a landmine explosion near the contested border. On July 23, five Thai soldiers were injured in a similar landmine blast, with one of them losing a leg.

In response to the escalating situation, Thailand recalled its ambassador to Cambodia and closed all border crossings with its neighbor.

Cambodia, on July 24, retaliated diplomatically by downgrading relations with Thailand to the lowest level and recalling all embassy staff from Bangkok.

Thailand and Cambodia share a 500-mile (800-kilometer) land border, much of which was drawn by France in 1907 during the colonial era. Thailand has long contested the demarcation, arguing that France did not fully define certain areas, particularly near historic temple sites.

The two countries have a history of periodic military flare-ups and nationalist disputes. In 2011, Thai and Cambodian troops clashed around the Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, leading to the displacement of thousands and the deaths of at least 20 people.

The latest tension resurfaced earlier this year, when a Cambodian soldier was killed in a brief clash in the contested border zone of the Emerald Triangle, where Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos meet.

On July 16, another landmine explosion in the same disputed area injured three Thai soldiers, one of whom lost a foot.

As of now, diplomatic ties remain severely strained, with both countries reinforcing troops along the border and international observers urging restraint.
