In opposition from Republican Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Patel's nomination was severely obstacles. But he got solid backing from the rest of the Republican Party, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had earlier blocked other Trump nominees. The confirmation was approved on a51-49 vote, with all Senate Democrats opposing him.

After the confirmation, Dan Scavino, Assistant to the President and White House Deputy Chief of Staff, posted a video on X congratulating Patel. Posting in his message, he stated, "Congratulations to the new Director of the FBI, @Kash_Patel!"

Earlier, the US Senate approved moving forward with Patel's nomination. On Tuesday, he passed a crucial procedural vote in the Senate with strong Republican support. The Senate voted 48-45 along party lines to move forward with the nomination, which kicked off a 30-hour debate before the final approval of Patel on Thursday, as per The New York Post.

During his Senate confirmation hearing on January 30, Patel was adamant about not tolerating violence, specifically mentioning the January 6 Capitol Riots. He reaffirmed that such activities should never be accepted and added, "For January 6, I have repeatedly, publicly and privately said that there can never be a tolerance for violence against law enforcement. And anyone that commits an act of violence against law enforcement should be investigated, prosecuted, and imprisoned."

Patel repeated his pledge to expose corruption in the government, asserting that public service is a privilege. He promised to remain vigilant in holding officials accountable and emphasized his commitment to protecting the country.

Patel had earlier headed President Trump's counterterrorism mission as Deputy Assistant to the President on the National Security Council (NSC). He assisted President Trump in accomplishing high-priority goals, such as dismantling top Al-Qa'ida and ISIS leadership and safely returning dozens of American hostages. As the White House's senior counterterrorism official, Patel was tasked with developing and implementing the country's policy to safeguard the homeland through the interagency execution of the national counterterrorism strategy.
