Delta plane flips during landing at Toronto airport; all 80 onboard escape alive latest news: A Delta Airlines jet flipped over on its back while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, on February 17, 2025. All 76 passengers and 4 crew members onboard survived, though 18 sustained minor injuries.

The flight was operating from Minneapolis to Toronto Pearson International Airport. The incident occurred when the plane attempted to land around 2:15 p.m. on a dry runway. The tower cleared the aircraft to land at about 2:10 p.m. local time and warned the crew about gusty winds.

According to the Meteorological Service of Canada, the weather conditions at the airport during the incident were about 16.5°F (–8.6°C) with blowing snow and winds of 32 mph (51 kph), gusting to 40 mph (65 kph). The controller stated that the plane came to rest at the intersection of Runways 23 and 15L. All 18 passengers who sustained minor injuries were taken to hospitals.

Deborah Flint, CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, told reporters, “We are very grateful that there was no loss of life and that the injuries were relatively minor.”
John Cox, CEO of aviation safety consulting firm Safety Operating Systems in St. Petersburg, Florida, said, “It’s very rare to see something like this.” He added, “We’ve seen a couple of cases of takeoffs where airplanes have ended up inverted, but it’s pretty rare.”

He also noted that the CRJ-900 is a proven aircraft that has been in service for decades, performs well in inclement weather, and that its pilots are well-trained to handle such conditions.

Canada’s Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation, with the U.S. NTSB assisting, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement, “The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport.”

Endeavor Air, based in Minneapolis, is a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines and the largest operator of the CRJ-900. It operates 130 regional jets on 700 daily flights across North America and the Caribbean. The CRJ-900, developed by Bombardier, belongs to the same aircraft family as the CRJ-700, which was involved in a midair collision near Reagan National Airport on January 29.
