In a tragic incident in southern Iraq, at least 60 people were killed after a massive fire broke out at a five-story shopping mall in Al-Kut city, Wasit Province, according to a report by The Hindustan, citing Wasit Governor Mohammed al-Miyahi.

A report by ZNews stated that the blaze occurred inside a hypermarket located within the mall.

"We have compiled a list of 59 victims whose identities have been confirmed, but one body was so badly burned that it has been extremely difficult to identify," a local health official told Reuters.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, Iraq's state news agency INA reported that initial findings are expected to be released within two days.

ZNews also reported speculation of a possible electrical fault, although authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause.
