Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Outlines Five-Point Plan for SCO’s Future
Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Tianjin, China Latest News: Chinese Foreign Minister and member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Yi, during a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Tianjin on July 16, proposed five key suggestions for the future development of the SCO, ANI reported.
Wang Yi emphasized the need to strengthen the SCO's role amidst global turbulence and geopolitical uncertainty.
In a statement issued by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi highlighted the vision for the SCO, stating, “At present, the century-old changes are accelerating, and turbulence and change are intertwined. The world is becoming more multipolar, economic globalisation is deepening, and the Global South is rising significantly. At the same time, hegemony and power politics are going against the trend, protectionism is surging, and regional conflicts are emerging one after another. Under these new circumstances, member states should build further consensus and strengthen the development of the SCO with a responsible attitude toward history and the future.”
The five key suggestions Wang Yi presented are:
- Not forgetting the original aspirations and carrying forward the “Shanghai Spirit”
- Sharing the responsibility of safety and security
- Pursuing mutual benefit and win-win development
- Being friendly and good neighbours
- Sticking to the right path and defending fairness and justice
Concluding his remarks, Wang expressed confidence that the upcoming Tianjin Summit, scheduled from August 31 to September 1, will be a complete success.
Apart from Jaishankar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting, along with counterparts from other member states.
During the meeting, preparations were made for the Tianjin Summit, and several resolutions were signed, including the draft Tianjin Declaration of the Council of Heads of State and the draft development strategy of the SCO for the next ten years, ANI reported.
