India Canada Intelligence Sharing Pact Latest News: In a major diplomatic breakthrough, Canada and India have agreed to begin sharing intelligence to jointly tackle transnational crime and terrorism, signaling a significant thaw in relations that have been strained in recent months.

The development was confirmed following high-level discussions between both nations. The agreement, hailed as a “historic step,” is aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating across borders, including those involved in extortion, money laundering, and terror-linked activities.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has taken a firm stance on restoring stable foreign relations, personally authorized the move.

“This is the only way to curb extortion rackets, because criminals are operating from multiple jurisdictions. Our security agencies must cooperate and empower the men and women who protect us from domestic and foreign threats,” said Carney.

Indian government officials welcomed the pact, describing it as a “constructive and necessary mechanism” to fight shared security threats.

A Turning Point

This intelligence-sharing initiative marks the first formal cooperation between Canada’s national security agencies and their Indian counterparts since relations soured in 2023 over political tensions linked to Khalistani extremism and diplomatic expulsions.

Security analysts suggest that the move could pave the way for future cooperation on counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and organized crime, potentially rebuilding trust between the two democracies.

However, the agreement has not been received positively by all quarters. Sources indicate that Khalistani separatist elements in Canada have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the pact, fearing increased surveillance and legal scrutiny.
