Cameron James Prosper was originally charged with second degree murder in the case

CANADA: A 21-year-old man from Pictou Landing First Nation has been sentenced to 9 years imprisonment by the court in connection with a murder case. The accused brutally stabbed a Punjabi Sikh youth Prabhjot Singh to death in 2021. Cameron James Prosper was originally charged with second degree murder in this case. In addition to the prison sentence, Prosper faces a lifetime firearms ban.

According to the information received, Prabhjot was going out of his friend's apartment on the morning of September 5, 2021 in Truro, Cattery, meanwhile, without any reason, the accused stabbed him several times with a knife on his neck, due to which Prabhjot died. Prabhjot came to Canada for higher studies in 2017. He was 23 years old when he was murdered.

Prabhjot's friends told a news channel that Prabhjot had completed his studies at the time of his death and was working as a taxi driver on a work visa while applying for permanent residency in Canada.

During a December court appearance, Justice Geoffrey Hunt questioned Prosper to make sure he understood he was waiving his right to a trial and that he was not being pleaded guilty under duress or to circumvent the legal process. "I am guilty because I committed the crime," replied the accused.
