Pakistan's DG ISPR, warned, "No one will be allowed to facilitate these terrorists, following their radical ideologies and foreign agendas."
Pakistan's clearance operation has concluded after an intense military effort, Pakistani military officials announced in their latest statements. All hostages have been freed, 21 passengers lost their lives, 33 insurgents were neutralized, and four Pakistani security personnel were martyred.
DG ISPR, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, speaking to a Pakistan-based news channel, revealed that in the clearance operation launched against the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) train hijackers, all hostages were successfully rescued. He clarified that no passengers were harmed during the rescue operation, but 21 passengers had already been killed by the BLA insurgents before the final clearance.
Sharif stated, "Before the final clearance, the number of hostages who had fallen victim to the brutality of these terrorists was 21." He added, "Apart from this, three FC personnel stationed at a railway ticketing point were martyred, while one FC soldier was also martyred during the operation."
According to DG ISPR, many passengers, including women and children, were held hostage in three different groups at the same location, right next to the bombed Jaffar Express in the Bolan Mountains. The insurgents were using the hostages as human shields, with suicide bombers positioned nearby, making the rescue operation highly challenging.
He emphasized, "These were the carriages where terrorists kept passengers hostage, sitting alongside suicide bombers." He further claimed that all 33 BLA attackers present at the location were eliminated.
"They were using innocent people, including women and children, as human shields. Because of this, the operation was conducted with extreme skill and caution," said Lieutenant General Chaudhry.
"First, the sharpshooters of the forces neutralized the suicide bombers. Then, in a systematic manner, all 33 terrorists present were eliminated."
Strong Warnings
He warned, "No one will be allowed to facilitate these terrorists—those who harm innocent Pakistani citizens in streets, trains, buses, and markets while following their radical ideologies and foreign agendas."
He further declared, "Let me say it very clearly: they will be hunted down and brought to justice."
He added, "This Jaffar Express incident changes the rules of the game because these terrorists have no connection with Balochistan, Islam, or Pakistan."
DG ISPR also stated that attackers were coordinating with their facilitators and mastermind in Afghanistan via satellite phone.
Conflicting Death Toll Reports
While Pakistani officials claim four security personnel lost their lives, various media outlets report that around 30 Pakistani security personnel were killed during the hijacking and subsequent clearance operation.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, expressing deep sorrow and shock. He stated, "Such cowardly acts will not weaken Pakistan’s commitment to peace."
On Tuesday, the Jaffar Express, a passenger train carrying over 450 passengers, was hijacked by BLA militants while traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. The train was attacked just before entering a tunnel in the Bolan Mountains.
The militants stormed the train, took passengers hostage, and positioned suicide bombers with explosive vests near them to deter security forces. Women and children were among the hostages held at three different locations.
Later, the BLA claimed responsibility, asserting that six military personnel had been killed and warning of retaliation if security forces launched an operation.
Military's Role in the Operation
The clearance operation against the train hijackers was conducted by Pakistan’s Armed Forces, including the Pakistan Army, Air Force, and other military units as per the statements of DG ISPR Shariff.
