He further claimed that India had agreed significantly reduce tariffs because "somebody is finally exposing them for what they have done."

White House Press Secretary Slams India’s High Tariffs, Calls for Fair Trade Practices latest news: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, while addressing a press briefing on Tuesday, deplored the tariffs imposed by India on the United States, along with those imposed by many other countries.

During her address, she specifically mentioned India's tariffs. When responding to a reporter's question about the timeline for Trump speaking with Canada’s Prime Minister-designate Mark Carney, she avoided directly answering and instead said, "The president is again responding to the fact that Canada has been ripping off the United States of America and hardworking Americans for decades. If you look at the rates of tariffs across the board that Canadians have been imposing on the American people and our workers here, it is egregious.”

She then went on to mention India's tariffs as well, saying, "In fact, I have a handy-dandy chart here that shows not just Canada but the rate of tariffs across the board. If you look at Canada, since you brought it up—American cheese and butter face nearly a 300 percent tariff. You look at India—150 percent tariff on American alcohol. Do you think that's helping Kentucky bourbon be exported into India? I don't think so. A 100 percent tariff on agricultural products from India."

She emphasized that President Trump is simply asking for fair and balanced trade practices.
Trump has repeatedly spoken about imposing reciprocal tariffs on various countries, accusing them of ripping off the U.S. for years. He has also mentioned multiple times his intent to impose tariffs on India.
Last week, Trump criticized India's tariffs, stating that it is "next to impossible to sell anything to India" due to the high tariff rates.

He further claimed that India had agreed to significantly reduce its tariffs because "somebody (Trump) is finally exposing them for what they have done."

On Sunday, as reported by Fox News, he suggested that tariffs on neighboring countries could increase in the future.
He said, "For years, globalists have been ripping off the United States. They've been taking money away from the United States, and all we're doing is getting some of it back. We're going to ensure our country is treated fairly."

He added, "This country has been ripped off by every nation in the world, every company in the world. We've been exploited at levels never seen before, and now, we are going to take back what belongs to us."
No statement has been issued by any Indian official on this remark by Trump as we report.
