Los Angeles California Wildfires Latest News Today: Los Angeles is grappling with its worst wildfires in history, as flames engulf the iconic Hollywood Hills and spread across the city. By Thursday morning, the infernos tore through the heartland of the American film industry, leaving devastation in their wake.
A massive crescent of fire, visible from space, has forced more than 100,000 people to evacuate as dry, hurricane-force winds propel the flames over parched terrain that has endured months without rain. Since the fires began on Tuesday, at least five lives have been lost.
“This firestorm is the big one,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared during a press conference, cutting short an official trip to Ghana to return to her city.
Six separate wildfires are raging across Los Angeles County, with three listed as “0% controlled.” Among them are two massive fires on the city’s eastern and western edges, along with the smaller but destructive Sunset Fire, which has ignited the Hollywood Hills, dangerously close to Hollywood Boulevard and the Walk of Fame.
The fires have devastated some of the region’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Paris Hilton’s Malibu beach mansion was reduced to ashes as she watched on live TV. Celebrities including Jamie Lee Curtis, Mark Hamill, Maria Shriver, Mandy Moore, and James Woods have been forced to evacuate their homes.
The largest blaze, burning in Pacific Palisades, has consumed nearly 12,000 acres (5,000 hectares) of land, leaving a trail of destruction in one of Los Angeles’ most affluent areas.
Firefighters are battling the flames under extreme conditions, with strong winds and dry vegetation fueling the inferno. Officials warn that containment will take time as the fires continue to wreak havoc across the region.
