President Donald Trump remains firm on his tariff stance, saying there will be no stepping back, Latest News: President Donald Trump has said there will be no pause on U.S. tariffs during negotiations, despite the global market turmoil triggered by the tariff announcements, ANI reported.

Yesterday, on Monday, stock market indices across major Asian economies—including India, China, and Japan—suffered heavy losses, with India alone losing approximately rupees 19 lakh crore in investor wealth.
Even in the face of market instability not only in other countries but also within the U.S., Trump maintained that the U.S. would not back down on tariffs and would continue to push for fair trade deals, even if that means some countries will have to pay substantial tariffs.

According to ANI, during a bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday (local time), Trump said, “We’re not looking at that,” reaffirming that the U.S. would stay focused on securing fair trade deals with other nations.
"We have many countries that are to negotiate deals with us, and they're going to be fair deals, and in certain cases, they're going to be paying substantial tariffs. They'll be fair deals," Trump said.

Trump has criticized china of their reciprocal tariff of 34% on US goods after Trump administration imposed the same. He has warned China of 50% more tariff, bringing the total tariff to 84% on those goods—if China doesn’t remove its own tariff by the deadline.
“They’ve become a rich country because of people who were in the White House."
Trump said he respects China and President Xi but insists the U.S. must act now to fix unfair trade practices, calling it a one-time chance to correct economic damage.
"I have a great relationship with President Xi. I hope it's going to stay that way. I have great respect for China, but they can't do this. We're just going to have one shot at this, and no other president is going to do this. and I'll tell you what: it's an honour to do it because we have been just destroyed. What they've done to our system, you know, we have 36 trillion dollars of debt for a reason. So we'll be talking to China. We'll be talking to a lot of different countries," the US President added.

On the matter of some tariffs being permanent and others that can be negotiated, Trump said, "They can both be true. There could be permanent tariffs, and there could also be negotiations."
"We're going to get fair deals and good deals with every country -- and if we don't, we're going to have nothing to do with them," he added.

Trump also took a swipe at the European Union, saying, “The EU has been very tough over the years. It was formed to do damage to the United States in trade. It was formed by most European countries to create a bit of a monopoly, a unified force against U.S. trade. The European Union has been very bad to us. They don’t take our cars—like Japan. They don’t take our agricultural products; they do practically nothing. They’re sending millions and millions of cars into the U.S., but we don’t have a single car being sold to the European Union or other places.”

European Union President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU is open to negotiating with the U.S., having proposed a “zero-for-zero” tariff deal on industrial goods.
In a post on X, she wrote, “Europe is ready to negotiate with the U.S. We’ve offered zero tariffs on industrial goods in exchange for the same. We’re always open to a fair deal—but we’re also prepared to respond with countermeasures and protect ourselves from any indirect impacts through trade diversion.”
