Apple Airlifts iPhones from India and China to Beat U.S. Tariffs; Exports from India Nearly Double in March, Latest news: In an attempt to cushion the impact of Trump’s sweeping 10% tariff, Apple reportedly airlifted five planes of iPhones from India and China to the U.S. over a span of three days in March, according to a Times of India report.

The last-minute move was made to beat the new 10% universal tariff on all imports. Tariff imposed by the U.S., effective April 5.
In addition, higher "reciprocal" tariffs aimed at specific countries were set to take effect on April 9, 2025. These tariffs targeted imports from nations that have substantial trade surpluses with the U.S.
“Factories had been stockpiling inventory in anticipation of the higher tariffs,” a source told TOI.

With this action, Apple aims to maintain current iPhone pricing in the U.S. and avoid immediate cost pressures.
“The reserves shipped at lower duty rates will insulate Apple’s U.S. operations for several months,” the source added.

According to an Economic Times report, Apple’s vendors nearly doubled shipments from India in March. Most of the exports reportedly headed to the U.S., touching rupees 20,000 crore — almost double the rupees 11,000 crore recorded during the same month last year.
