Canada Latest News: The Indian Consulate in Toronto has canceled several planned consular camps after Canadian authorities conveyed their inability to provide the necessary security. The consulate announced the decision on X, explaining, "Due to security agencies' inability to offer minimum protection to camp organizers, the Consulate has decided to cancel some scheduled consular camps."

This decision follows a recent incident of violence outside the Hindi Sabha Temple in Brampton, where anti-India extremists disrupted a consular camp. India raised concerns at the highest levels, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing deep dissatisfaction over the security lapses.

Following the Brampton incident, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa and Consulates in Vancouver and Toronto had requested additional security for these camps, organized to assist Indian nationals with routine consular services. "The failure to provide a safe environment for these camps is deeply disappointing and concerning for the safety of Indian nationals and applicants," stated the High Commission.

Previous disruptions also occurred in Vancouver and Surrey on November 2 and 3, prompting the High Commission to state that future camps would be contingent on adequate security. The ongoing diplomatic tension between India and Canada includes allegations of surveillance on Indian diplomats, against which India has formally protested, citing violations of the Vienna Convention.
