The update comes a month after Mooney, known for her role in an "American Pie" sequel, was detained by U.S. border authorities in March 2025 due to issues with her work visa. She was reportedly held in detention for about two weeks.

This is the second time Canada has updated its travel advisory for the U.S. since the fallout between President Donald Trump and former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Following this incident, Canada's advisory, updated on April 4, 2025, urges travelers to expect increased scrutiny at U.S. entry points, including potential inspections of electronic devices such as phones and laptops.

Ottawa is advising potential travelers to be prepared for heightened scrutiny and inspections. The advisory also highlights that U.S. authorities have the right to inspect electronic devices, including phones and laptops.

"Comply and be forthcoming in all interactions with border authorities. If you are denied entry, you could be detained while awaiting deportation," the new advisory, updated on April 4, reads.

“Different entry rules may apply when traveling with a temporary passport or emergency travel document. Before you leave, check with the closest diplomatic mission for your destination,” it adds.
