Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan presided over the talks. Turkish officials stated the meeting would begin at 1 p.m. local time. However, Ukrainian spokesperson Mr. Tykhyi said it would start at midday, The Hindu reported.

“The eyes of the whole world are focused on the contacts here,” said Foreign Minister Fidan, addressing the Russian and Ukrainian delegations as they came face to face at the Ciragan Palace by the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey.

“We believe that you will achieve concrete results that will bring us one step closer to peace,” Fidan added.
