China Increases Taiwan Exercises, Carries Out Live-Fire Drills in East China Sea Amid Rising Tensions, latest news: 
China’s military on Wednesday carried out long-range live-fire drills in the East China Sea, escalating its ongoing exercises around Taiwan.
China's Eastern Theatre Command did not disclose the exact location of the drill but stated that, as part of the "Strait Thunder-2025A" exercise, its ground forces conducted drills targeting ports and energy facilities, according to Reuters.
"The drills involve precision strikes on simulated targets of key ports and energy facilities and have achieved the desired effects," Reuters quoted.

The exercise reportedly comes after China’s remarks against Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te, whom Beijing called a "parasite" on Tuesday.
This development is seen as a direct response to the visit of U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who visited Asia from March 24 to March 29, 2025. During his visit, Hegseth repeatedly criticized Beijing.

The Chinese government does not recognize Taiwan as an independent country and opposes any moves toward formal independence. Beijing insists that Taiwan is part of "One China" and pressures other countries and organizations to do the same.

According to Reuters, a senior security official said there were more than 10 Chinese warships in Taiwan’s response zone on Wednesday. Taiwan has called the drill "harassment", adding that China’s coast guard was also participating in the exercises.
